We had a great time in Islamic Cairo with our guide Ahmed and our driver Asem. Ahmed was very friendly and told us a lot about the history and architecture of the sights. We visited all the stops on the itinerary and even had an extra stop at the bathhouse. We had all the time we needed to look around and take pictures. Definitely a great tour to explore Islamic Cairo in a few hours.Ahmed & Ehab did a wonderful job our tour guide and driver. Cannot thank them enough for fitting us in at the last minute.

I chose this tour because in the description it was all about the mosques, so I thought that 4 hours visiting the oldest and most impressive mosques was exactly the way I wanted to spend my day. Now don’t get me wrong, if you like shopping maybe that’s exactly what you prefer to do, I chose the tour to avoid shopping and to see the mosques only. When in the car the guide mentioned we would be visiting a few mosques and then we will go to the old market where I could shop, I mentioned that I wasn’t sure I would have the energy for that after the mosques... Said and done, the driver took us to the old city where it turned out the first thing we did is basically went to the old city to shop. So they took us to shop first, I guess, while we had energy to do that. Again if that’s what you want, sure go for it. I voted for not recommending the tour to my friends, simply because my friends, like me, don’t do shopping tours The day we went for a tour turned out to be not the best one, due to the security increase in all the mosques so we weren’t allowed in, the soldiers turned us away. Which was a good thing anyway, because half an hour after that, our guide showed us the news about crowd protests erupting exactly where we’ve been turned down by the security guards On the positive side, we did manage to go to one of the mosques and that was a great experience. Bisho the guide did the best he could, shared all the stories and made us feel safe. Having said that i can’t get rid of the feeling that the company could have predicted and foreseen the situation. After all, these are locals and know what’s happening and how dangerous the situation is, knowing that we wouldn’t be able to visit the places we wanted to see, knowing that we could be endangered just walking around, one could think that the most responsible thing to do would be to explain the dangers to us and to cancel the tour at the early stage. We were lucky not to end up in the middle of unpredictable crowd protests, I’m not sure that’s the most desirable experience once wants to have, when travelling with children/familyLet me first say that the guide Mohammed did a very good job of explaining historic significance of places he took and appeared to have good knowledge. Let me first say that the guide Mohammed did a very good job of explaining historic significance of places he took and appeared to have good knowledge. This was about the only thing that was good about this tour. We saw a number of Islamic Cairo tours but chose this one because this was the only tour we could find that promised that we will see a thousand-year old Islamic University (Al-Azhar) and offered free pick up from all hotels in Cairo and Giza. We bought a ticket with pick up at Barron Hotel in Cairo that included pre-paid entry fees at all attractions. Here are the problems we had. 1. We ended up at TOLIP hotel near by rather than Barron. We called the tour operator the day before and asked to change the pick up. He wanted USD 20.00 more to change the pick, saying that it was close to the airport. Well, both hotels were in Cairo and they are 5.7 KM (3.6 Miles) apart according to Google Maps. We ended up arranging our own transport to Baron hotel to be picked up for the tour. 2. Primary reason for booking this tour over others for Islamic Cairo was to see Al-Azhar university that only they premised to show. Other operators were honest and upfront in telling us that they will show us Al-Azhar Mosque that was once Al-Azhar university but the current Al-Azhar university was closed to public. Viator contacted their local operator just before we bought the ticket to verify that we will indeed see the university and they confirmed. The guide tried to seek admission to the university but we were denied by the guard at the entrance. This was outright deception in advertising by them. 3. There was no entry fee at any of the Mosques the guide took us into and we only entered Mosques. Selling a higher priced ticket option with entry fees included when there were no entry fees was another deception. Based on this experience, we feel ripped off and cheated and can not recommend this or any other tour by this operator, Hisham Egypt to anyone.
