1943: the Battle of the Primosole Bridge
Overview
This tour will take visitors through a path on the edge of memory, along the front of one of the battles that decided the fate of the Second World War, the one fought between Syracuse and Catania, along the Simeto river line.
A particularly suggestive moment of reflection will take place at the English and German war cemeteries, the burial place of many soldiers who lost their lives here.
The day will end with a visit to the interesting museum dedicated to the Allied Landing in Sicily, where accurate reconstructions and a rich historical documentation, films and videos of the time tells the story of Operation Husky.
The memory of the past becomes a moment of knowledge and education, to build a peaceful future.

Visit to the Primosole Bridge, where within two kilometers there are four monuments in memory of the battle where British and German paratroopers clashed (Operation Fustian)
Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes
Stop At: Oasi del Simeto, SS 114 Orientale Sicula, 95121 Catania CT, Italy
In this place it is possible to visit a part of the front line, along the path of the Simeto oasis, where it is possible to admire the area of naturalistic interest and the buildings with still the writings of the fascist era, today the seat of the reserve.

Visit to Agnone beach and the Ponte dei Malati near Lentini, the scene of heavy clashes between Germans and English commandos; on the same place it is possible to visit some bunkers that protected the bridge and admire an original plaque, laid by Gen. Montgomery himself in 1943.

For me, this was a fascinating day. I have studied operation husky, the 1943 invasion, so it was really interesting. For me, this was a fascinating day. I have studied operation husky, the 1943 invasion, so it was really interesting. I was very lucky to have Marco, my guide, on a 1 to 1, and he was excellent, punctual and good company. However, I feel that the title of the tour could be misleading. There is very little to see at the sight of the original bridge, so imagination is important. This tour is all about the invasion and battles in this area, finishing at the very understated but excellent museum. So I have only given a 3 star. Just so people know what to expect.AnnaMary_Z
